The Czech energy distributor EG.D, s.r.o., a key subsidiary of the E.ON Group, has awarded a significant €13.5 million framework contract to Schneider Electric CZ, s.r.o. and Siemens, s.r.o. for the supply of secondary high-voltage (HV) switchboards as part of the Secondary Switchboards HV III project. The contract was officially announced in the Official Gazette S 185/2025.
The agreement, valued at an estimated €16.3 million over a four-year period, will supply metal-covered, type-tested switchboards up to 25 kV. The equipment, which includes both compact and modular designs, will support power distribution modernization across South Bohemian (CZ031) and South Moravian (CZ064) regions, covering EG.D’s entire operational area.
Following a restricted tendering procedure under Directive 2014/25/EU, EG.D selected Schneider Electric CZ as the top-ranked supplier with a contract value of €13.41 million, and Siemens, s.r.o. as the second-ranked bidder with a €13.90 million offer. Both contracts were signed on 15 September 2025, following the award decision made on 25 August 2025.
In total, three tenders were received, with one from a small or medium enterprise (SME). No complaints or reviews were lodged with the Office for the Protection of Competition, indicating a transparent and compliant procurement process.
The project forms part of the EU-funded “Gabreta Smart Grids” initiative (Project No. 101146964 - 10.11-CZDE-WM-23-Gabreta), which aims to strengthen cross-border energy resilience and support Czechia’s transition to intelligent energy infrastructure.
The new HV switchboards will improve grid reliability, automation, and safety, helping EG.D reduce environmental impacts through responsible public procurement practices. The company emphasized adherence to sustainability, occupational safety, and environmental protection regulations, including Act No. 17/1992 Coll. on the Environment.
This modernization initiative underscores EG.D’s strategic focus on smart energy distribution and grid efficiency, aligning with Czechia’s national energy policy and EU climate objectives. Both Schneider Electric and Siemens bring extensive expertise in switchgear systems and smart grid technologies, ensuring long-term operational reliability and flexibility for the Czech distribution network.
Implementation will commence in September 2025, with full rollout expected over four years. The framework agreement allows for supply flexibility, ensuring consistent delivery of components to support ongoing grid upgrades across southern Czech regions.
